PTs/PTAs
CFPT has been granted accreditation as a CEU provider through the Texas Physical Therapy Association. In person requested courses will seek CEU approval through the appropriate governing body on an as needed basis. CFPT’s Online Comprehensive Sport-Related Concussion Management course is currently pre-approved through Texas' accrediting bodies and through reciprocity with 35 other states for 24.5 CEUs. It is ultimately the responsibility of each participant to confirm with their state’s governing body the rules and regulations regarding CEUs and reporting for licensure renewal. We know that CEU accreditation is very valuable to you because employers will often not reimburse for continuing education unless the course is worth CEUs. We have worked very hard to have our courses thoroughly vetted for approval in order to provide that value.
STATES PRE-APPROVED THROUGH RECIPROCITY: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
STATES THAT DO NOT REQUIRE CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR RE-LICENSURE: Maine, Massachusetts, South Dakota. In addition, some states do not perform verification of continuing education material which means they do not approve courses for CEU credit and usually accept any material. Please check with your state physical therapy association or state PT board for more details.
What about other states?
The states that have not been previously listed require individual approval in each state or do not pre-approve courses. If you are taking one of our courses and we are not approved in your state through reciprocity, please visit your state board/association website for more information about what is needed to seek “individual approval”. Often, you have an option to apply for individual approval by submitting proof that you took the course along with other paperwork we can provide you (faculty CVs, course schedule, course objectives, etc.) We have never had a course denied for approval through this route. We will work with you and provide needed information to obtain continuing education credit in your state with your accrediting body as an individual licensee.
Continuing education requirements are regulated by the state boards of physical therapy. Each state licensing board has its own policies and procedures related to continuing education of its licensees. State boards of physical therapy place the responsibility on licensees to follow rules and regulations related to the practice of physical therapy and maintenance of licensure in their states. Licensees should verify acceptance of continuing education courses with their state licensing board by reviewing the relevant state practice act and/or administrative code.
